Obituary
Sheryl E. Forbes, 68, of Fort Dodge passed away January 25, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 30th, 2012 at the First Congregational UCC Church in Fort Dodge with Pastor Gary Bird officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Fort Dodge. A private family visitation will be held at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services prior to the funeral.
Sheryl Elaine Nelson, daughter of Roy E. and Clara A. Nelson, was born November 3, 1943 in Moline Illinois. At a young age she moved with her family to Arnolds Park, Iowa. She attended the Arnolds Park School, Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, and graduated from the State College of Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa. Additional graduate work was completed at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. She taught school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Niagara Falls, New York; Duncombe Elementary, Fort Dodge; Humboldt High School, Humboldt, IA; and was on the staff of Arrowhead Area Education Agency as a VESS coordinator at Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was a long time member of First Congregational UCC Church where she served as a past Moderator and was a 30 year choir member. She also worked within the community as a volunteer for Operation Christmas as well as a 4-H leader for 10 years. She was a member of PEO Chapter JX.
Survivors include her husband Alan and son Scott both of Fort Dodge; daughter Shelia, of Lexington, Kentucky; granddaughter Hailey Forbes and grandson Carter Forbes both of Fort Dodge; brother in-law Gordon (Valerie) Forbes of Placitas, New Mexico; uncle Harold “Andy” Anderson of Duncombe, IA; nephew Brett Nelson of Des Moines, Iowa; and niece Margaret Hollingsworth of Denver Colorado. Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Verlyn Nelson.
