He grew up and attended school in Sheldon and then joined the U.S. Army. He served in Japan and the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1953. He married Ramona Jones on October 31, 1953. Arie lived in the Clare area for the past 41 years and was a member of St. Matthews Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed putting up Christmas lights, playing cards, traveling, camping, gardening and hunting.
Arie is survived by his children, Arie, David, Debra and Lori Poldervaart of Clare, Judy (Willie) Haines of Clare, Ramona (Jeff) Kirchhoff of Humboldt, Sandy (Brett) Mallinger of Thor, Steven (Ronica) Poldervaart of Fort Dodge, Don (Shanette) Poldervaart of Fort Dodge, Ron Poldervaart of Fort Dodge and Gary Poldervaart of Duncombe; sister Jennie (Herman) Lode of Sheldon, IA and brother John (Barb) Poldervaart of Florida; 19 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ramona; daughter Mona Poldervaart; grandsons Clark and Roger; step-sister Joann Tapp and step-brother Merlin Tapp.
