Curtis Alan Stover Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Curtis A. Stover, 61, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with colon cancer. A service honoring Curtis’ life will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 21, at Northfield Church of Christ with the Rev. Dale Harlow officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Rockwell City. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Northfield Church of Christ. Attendees are encouraged to wear royal blue to the service. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Curtis is survived by his wife Laura; his children, Martha (Mike) Mericle, and their children, Brinley and Landrey, Fort Dodge; Joel (Danielle) Stover, and their children, Kierstin, Lilly and Maddy, Fort Dodge; Andrew (Laurel) Stover, Iowa City; his siblings, Robert (Paula) Stover, Muscatine; Jon (Amy) Stover, Norwalk; Mary (Brian) Schafer, Sheldon; his cousin Lisa (Phil) Seeberg, Naperville, Ill.; his aunt Barbara Kennan and his in-laws Julia (B.J.) Ukena; his sister-in-law Linda (Scott) Seeger, Milford; four nieces, seven nephews and faithful dog Nukem. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Ruth Stover. Curtis Alan Stover, the son of Dale William and Mildred Ruth (Riemersma) Stover, was born August 24, 1960, at Sioux Center, Iowa. He graduated from Floyd Valley High School at Alton in 1979, and from Morningside College in Sioux City, where he played football for the Chiefs while earning a degree in criminal justice. On May 18, 1986, Curtis was united in marriage to Laura Faye Brundeen at First Presbyterian Church in Alta. Curtis was employed as a juvenile counselor at Rabiner’s Boys Ranch, as a meat cutter for Hy Vee Food Stores in Worthington, Minn., and for many years as a USDA Meat Inspector in Worthington, Storm Lake and Hospers. Curtis was employed with Sara Lee and for the United States Postal Service as a rural carrier in Humboldt, following in his father’s footsteps. From 1981 to 2018, Curtis was a sports official for the IGHSAU in volleyball, basketball and softball, and for the IHSAA in baseball, basketball and football. He treasured opportunities to officiate games with his sons and brother, known as ‘The Stover Crew.” He was a lifelong Colts fan and a member of the Lizard Creek Model Railroad Club. He also enjoyed his sports card business he owned and operated in Worthington. Curtis was a 44 year member of the Presbyterian Church serving on various committees, as an ordained Elder, Sunday school teacher and youth group volunteer. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the care Curtis received from Dr. Joshua Lukenbill and his staff and Dr. Subhash Sahai and his staff.
