David McCollum, 66, of Fort Dodge died on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 1pm Friday, December 18, 2020 at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Gunderson’s. Burial will take place at North Lawn Cemetery. David Elmer McCollum was born on February 8, 1954 to Carol Lavonne (Butler) and Floyd Milton McCollum in Carroll, Iowa. David spent his youth growing up in Iowa and Minnesota. David graduated from Sac City High School in 1971. In February 1972 David enlisted in the United States Navy. He served the majority of his service in San Diego, California. David served until January 1975. June 5, 1976 David was united in marriage to Lavonne Hazel Arrowsmith in Dallas County, Iowa. One child was born of this union, Christina Marie McCollum. On August 21, 1982 David was united in marriage to Jacqueline Rose Halbur (George) in Carroll, Iowa. Jacqui brought four children to this marriage: Angela Marie Halbur, Christina Lynn Halbur, Shawn Paul Halbur and Gennifer Ann Halbur. David worked at True Value Hardware for a number of years as well as Nobel Manufacturing in Sac City. David became a locksmith and started his own business while in Carroll. He also managed the Pester Derby gas station in Carroll for a while. In 1986 David and Jacqui moved to Fort Dodge. David worked 15 years at Walmart and was lovingly called the auctioneer by his customers. David left Walmart in 2002. David wrote stories and poetry and loved his music. 2007 he and Jacqui began raising 5 grandchildren, Jessica Ebner, Shawn M. Halbur, Shane Halbur, Clarrissa Halbur and Shiloh Halbur. David enjoyed his grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. He spent as much time with them as his health allowed. David spent the last four years in a nursing home due to his health. He was residing at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge when Covid-19 raised its ugly head. David lost his battle with COVID-19 on December 8, 2020. He is survived by his Wife: Jacqueline McCollum, Daughter: Christina McCollum of Bradgate, Step-Daughters: Angela Halbur Gibbs (Ron) of Gowrie, Christina Halbur Brockelsby (Joseph) of Sioux City, Gennifer Halbur Quillen (Dennis) of Sioux City. Four Grand-Children he raised: Shawn M. Halbur of Iowa City, Clarrissa Halbur of Fort Dodge, Shane Halbur of Lehigh, and Shiloh Halbur still at home in Fort Dodge. He is survived also by a total of 24 grandchildren and 13 plus 2(almost here) Great Grandchildren. David is also survived by Step-Sister: Debbie Gwynn, Sibling: Floyd McCollum Jr., Kathy Keeble Tafs (McCollum), Tammy Crews (McCollum), and Jason McCollum all of Florida as well as Randy Grapper of Oklahoma, Dennis Grapper of Virginia, Ronald Grapper of Florida, Barb Grapper of Minnesota, and Bonnie Grapper of Kansas. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Step-Father: Roy William Jahde. Step-Son: Shawn P Halbur, Step Grand-Children: Jessica (Ebner) Gomez, and Jacob Gibbs; also, a Brother: Daniel Grapper. David will be laid to rest at Northlawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge, Iowa.
