Howard W. Corey, 85, of Coalville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. Services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jena Finch-Manchester officiating. Burial will be in the Otho Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. Those attending the visitation and service are encouraged to wear masks and observe physical distancing. Howard is survived by his two daughters, Kimberly (Don) Peart of Coalville, JoAnn (Larry) Lennon of Duncombe; his 10 grandchildren, Nick Corey, Alexa (Chase) Eastwood, Ashley (Jory) Heinecke, Amanda Peart, Joshua (Katy) Peart, Karen (Josh) Hayes, Patrick Lennon, Stacy (Joel) Gannon, Joseph (Chelsea) Lennon and Thomas Lennon and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carol in 2018 and their son Shane Corey in 2019. He is also preceded in death by his four siblings, Richard Corey, Shirley Councilman, Marilyn Bell and Lloyd “Butch” Corey. Howard Wayne Corey, the son of Howard F. and Hester (Bowles) Corey, was born October 21, 1934, in Lake City Iowa. Howard lived in Lake City before he and his family moved to Deer River, Minnesota. He graduated in 1954, from Deer River High School. The follow year Howard joined the United States Army and service in Germany. While in the Army he started boxing. During his time boxing in the Army, Howard was a Golden Glove Winner. Howard received his honorable discharge in 1958. On June 28, 1958, he was united in marriage to Carol Cater in Deer River. After their marriage the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Howard was employed with Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric as an electrician. He worked there for 38 years before his retirement in November of 1995. Howard was a member of the Otho United Methodist Church and later Trinity United Methodist Church. He loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking was some of his favorite things to do. He also raised and trained Black Labs for Field Trials.
