    Larry Gene Strayer

    November 3, 1935 - June 2, 2020

    Larry G. Strayer, 84, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minnesota. Services will be 1:30 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at St. Paul Lutheran Church and Schools with Rev. Kendall Meyer officiating. Services for a Larry Strayer will be lived streamed on St. Paul Lutheran Church and Schools Facebook page. Burial will be at the Lotts Creek Cemetery near Lone Rock, Iowa at 4:30 PM on Saturday. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. All guidelines from the IDPH will be followed by Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services for visitations and services. The use of face masks are encouraged. Larry is survived by his wife, Diane; their two children, Carla Jo (Jeff) Sotzen of Plano, Texas and Todd (Sherri) Strayer of Fishers, Indiana; two grandchildren, Cole Sotzen and Cody Sotzen both of Plano and two great grandchildren, Landyn and Beckham and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister, Virginia Will of Algona. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dolores Zumack and his brother, Donald Strayer. Larry Gene Strayer, the son of Kenneth and Mabel (Godden) Strayer was born November 3, 1935 near Burt, Iowa. He was a member of Algona High School graduating class of 1953. On October 12, 1958, Larry was united in marriage to Diane Wichtendahl at the Lotts Creek Church near Lone Rock, Iowa After their marriage Larry and Diane made their home in Biloxi, Mississippi where Larry was stationed with the Air National Guard. After their daughter was born, the family moved to Fort Dodge. Larry worked for the Farner-Bocken Company for about 10 years before he started working for the United States Post Service. Larry retired after 32 years of service with the Post Office. Larry was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church & Schools and was very active as at St. Paul’s serving on several church boards and committees. Larry was a great prankster, an optimist, a church usher and a Hawkeye fan. He loved to garden, go fishing, bird watching, summer vacations at Spirit Lake and traveling with Diane visiting family and spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
