Luella D. Hett, 96, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, October 11, 2019, at the Simpson Health Center of Friendship Haven. A service honoring Luella’s life will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Deer Creek Township, with the Rev. Kyle McBee officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Luella Dorothea Holst was born on September 15, 1923 in Deer Creek Township of Webster County outside of Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was the eighth of ten children born to Henry and Alvina (Stahlbock) Holst. She was educated in country and parochial schools graduating from 8th grade. On April 9, 1944 she was united in marriage to Weldon Hett at Trinity Lutheran Church of Deer Creek Township. They made their home in rural Marion County, Kansas for eleven years where she assisted Weldon farming and in the electrical/plumbing business. In 1955 they moved back to rural Fort Dodge where they continued farming and the business. After Weldon’s death in 1981, Luella continued living on the farm until the summer of 2006 when she moved to Fort Dodge. Luella was a lifelong church worker actively involved in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and sewing numerous quilts to be given to church charities. She enjoyed playing cards with the Badger 39ers. She was also treasurer of the Clare American Legion Auxiliary for many years. For 15 years, she was a cook at the Clare Café. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Weldon, four sisters, five brothers and son-in-law Tony Schkade. Survivors include daughters Mary Schkade of Lincoln, NE, Elaine and Dick Core of Dubuque, Iowa, and Darlene and John Winninger of Duncombe, Iowa. Son Eugene Hett resides in Casper, WY. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be left to the family’s discretion.
