Melvin Fred Pieper, 93, of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Friendship Haven. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Our Savior United Methodist Church in Manson, IA. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 14 at the church in Manson. Melvin Fred Pieper born September 22, 1928, in Spencer, Iowa to the late Reverend Fred August Pieper and Amanda Elizabeth (Bier) Pieper. He attended Hubbard High School graduating in 1947, then later attended Westmar College and joined the U.S. Navy in 1951,during the Korean War. He began a secondary teaching career in 1953 at Cornell H.S. In 1955 he met his life partner, Marlene Joan Johnson, of Peterson, Iowa. They married May 20, 1956. In 1958 they moved to Postville, Iowa where they gave birth to their first child, Jason Harold. In May of 1961, God gave them their daughter, Jody Sue. Teaching positions followed at Dewitt & Davenport Iowa. In 1967, he accepted a teaching position in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He retired in 1989 at North Twin Lakes, Manson, Iowa. He entrusts his family to God's care; Melvin is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marlene Joan of 65 years and his father-in-law, Private Harold L. Johnson, who sacrificed his life on the battlefield of Europe in 1944. He is survived by his son Jason Harold Pieper and wife Jennifer Lynn; daughter Jody Sue Donahe and husband James Dean; three grandchildren: Matthew Jason Pieper, Jonathan David Pieper, Katie Marlene (Donahe) Boland and husband Ryan Joseph.
