Ruth Marie Barton Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ruth Marie Barton, 87, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022, at her home in Fort Dodge. Services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Humboldt, Iowa. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday, at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. Ruth Marie Davis, the daughter of Frank and Ella (Steffensen) Davis, was born April 15, 1935, in Humboldt, Iowa. Ruth graduated from Humboldt High School in 1953. She married William “Bill” Barton in 1953 and was married for 47 years until his passing on November 8, 2000. Throughout the years she was employed by Younkers as an office manager, and then worked at 1st Federal Savings Bank retiring as the branch manager in 1998. Following her retirement, she worked as a receptionist at Friendship Haven and then volunteered there for many years. She is survived by her two daughters, Sharyl Ault of Fort Dodge and Krista (David) Smidl of West Chester, Ohio; five grandchildren, Alyssa (Mike) Collier and their children Cole, Lily and Luke, Kevin (Andrea) Ault and their children Henry, Howie, Hannah, Hutch and Hayes, Abby (Jon) Hansen and their son Will, Kate Smidl, and Libby (Ben) Nolan. She is also survived by her brother, Frank (Beverly) Davis. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, a brother Joe Davis, and a son-in-law Ronald Ault. Ruth was very active in her church, Trinity United Methodist, serving on the Caring Ministry Team and serving lunches for funerals. She was a board member for the Fort Dodge Public Library, worked at their bookstore, and book sales and delivered books to those who could not get out. She belonged to TTT Sorority, where she helped to raise funds to send girls to camp. She enjoyed knitting and made afghans for families and prayer shawls for Veterans and nursing homes. Ruth loved to bake and take treats to her neighbors and friends. She also enjoyed her book club and Bible Study groups. Ruth was an avid sports fan, closely following Iowa State basketball and football. Most of all, she loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called her "Greatie". Ruth will be deeply missed by all.
