March 18, 1964 - November 13, 2021
Sue Ellen Anderson-Essing, 57, of Fort Dodge, passed on from this world unexpectedly at her home on November 13, 2021. She was born March 18, 1964 in Fort Dodge to Richard and Lois Anderson. Sue grew up in Barnum with her parents and three siblings. She graduated from Barnum High School and went on to Iowa Central Community College where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Sue had a passion for helping others, working for several health care agencies in Fort Dodge and as maintenance staff for the Fort 8 Theater. Sue cherished time spent with her "colorful crew" family and her many friends whom she also considered family. She enjoyed entertaining her loved ones with her favorite song, "You Are My Sunshine," whenever given the opportunity. Her favorite color being the rainbow was fitting as she enjoyed all forms of art - whether it be Stephen King novels, Tom Petty, or any number of movies (even if she always fell asleep). She especially shined when creating her own art, spending her free time turning her home into a castle where her favorite media was hot glue and paint. Very hands-on when it came to her DIY projects, she maintained an expansive garden and even painted a mural inside her home. She understood that a life worth living would cross many paths, having tall peaks as well as valleys below, and her life journey did. Sue will be remembered for her creativity, her passion, her wisdom, and her infectious laugh. Sue would say her proudest achievement in life was successfully raising seven children alongside her prince charming, Craig Essing. She is survived by Craig and their children: Amanda Sue Mandarin (Caleb Copper) Schlentz, Chelsea Blue (Trytten Golden Tehrani), Dylan Black (Alex Turquoise); Rev. Jac/Rachael Jade, Aubrey Baelea Pearl (Jasmine Sage), Jakob Grey, and Josephine Butterfly Rose; grandchildren Ierly, Vada, Topanga, and Wren Schlentz; siblings Alecia (Doug) Borer, and Harry (Cindy) Anderson; and many cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Dick and Lois Anderson; her sister Roxanne; her niece Dinine; her brother-in-law Steven Essing; and her grandson Ezekiel. Sue will be greatly missed by those who knew her well and loved her much, especially her husband, Craig, who missed her even before she was gone. A small service will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church at 2:30 PM on Saturday, November 20 with a celebration of life to follow at 4:00 PM. We encourage people to wear tie dye or their favorite hat in memory of her.
