Charles LeRoy Luckenbill Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Charles LeRoy Luckenbill, 88, of rural Fort Dodge, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge. Services will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge. Charles LeRoy Luckenbill, the son of Tillman and Della (Elsey) Luckenbill, was born on February 1, 1934, in Fort Dodge and attended Fort Dodge South Junior High School through the 8th grade. Charles then lied about his age so he could get a job at Hormel’s in Fort Dodge. When Chuck was 18, he enlisted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Army, Chuck continued to serve with the Iowa National Guard. On October 28, 1955, Charles was united in marriage to Donna Marie Wood. After their marriage the couple made Palm Grove their home where they owned and operated a saddle shop. Together they owned horses and loved raising their farm animals. Chuck learned on his own and would horse trade for car parts. In the early 1980’s he built his own electric car and a wind turbine, a man truly ahead of the times. He bricked his own house, did leatherwork, and worked on clocks. He also would buy old lawn mowers and fix them and resell them. He was known as a “Jack of all Trades”. In Chuck’s later year he developed Parkinson. His frustration with that disease caused him to give up some of his beloved skills that he learned. After his wife Donna passed away on December 11, 2018, Chuck continued to live in Palm Grove until he entered the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. He is survived by his son, Mike (Sandy) Luckenbill of Overland Park, KS; two grandsons, Ben (Trish) Luckenbill and Chris Luckenbill both of Overland Park, KS; a brother Dick Luckenbill of Des Moines and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Mathias of Ames. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Donna, and several brothers and sisters.
