Jerold E. (Jerry) Rowe, 85, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at his home. A service honoring Jerry’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 8, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Austin D. Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856 and the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation is 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Oakland Cemetery Preservation Fund, the Historical Society or to the discretion of the donor. Jerry is survived by his sisters-in-law, Delores “Roony” Roseke, Fort Dodge; Evelyn Rowe, LeMars; his nieces and nephews, Kerry (Sheri) Rowe, Brian (Laurie) Rowe, Scott (Jane) Rowe, and Sharon (John) Sailer, all of LeMars; Steve “Guy” (Susan) Schuster, Ashburn, Virginia; Larry “Sharp” (April) Schuster, Fort Dodge; and Sue “Baby Woo” Schuster (Merle Bloom), Twin Lakes; He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marva, his brother Jim Rowe, brother-in-law Lawrence “Big L” Roseke and his niece Pam. Jerold Elwood Rowe, the son of Cordy and Mabel (Burnett) Rowe, was born June 8, 1933, on a farm near Gowrie. Jerry graduated from Gowrie High School in 1952. From 1952 to 1956, Jerry served in the United States Air Force. On February 1, 1958, Jerry was united in marriage to Marva Nieman in Kanawha. The couple lived in Fort Dodge since 1958, until Marva’s passing this past January. Jerry worked for United States Gypsum. He was later employed with Reliable Cleaners for 14 years and Aladdin and Brooks Laundry and Dry Cleaners for 23 years, before retiring in 1995. Jerry was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was active with the Frontier Days Steering Committee, the Fort Dodge Preservation Commission, the Oakland Cemetery Walk and the Fort Dodge Historical Society. He participated in many Civil War activities and enjoyed reading and researching the history of the Civil War.
